Get Zen Where You Can

Bringing more peace into my daily life has been on my mind often over the past year or so, and I'm always looking for new ways to find it. One morning last weekend, my husband and I were having our coffee out on the patio, which is a pretty nice way to start the day any how, but our cat, Jynx, decided to hop up into my lap. He's a super cool cat, you may have seen him in some of the class videos, but he doesn't do this sort of thing every day. So I really gave him my full attention as I stroked his back from ears to tail, over and over. As I moved my hand in this repetitive motion, I decided to make this moment part of my daily meditation. I stayed perfectly present with the motion of my hand, the sensation of his fur against my palm, the shimmer of his coat in the morning sunlight. I have no idea how long we sat, but it was a beautiful way to add in a bit of mediation to a normal, every day situation. I know he enjoyed it as he purred softly the entire time, and I had just a few moments of complete peace in an average, every day sort of way. I know each of you have these moments. Begin to recognize them, savor them, and see if they don't begin to slowly, gently, change your life.
