Commit to yourself.

Commit to yourself. Tapas is the principle of self-discipline, or commitment, according to the Niyamas in yoga. As the New Year approaches, we all start to consider resolutions. Most of which, truthfully, we won't keep. Getting to the gym regularly is a super common resolution. We see it every year. The gym is packed in January, and typically by the end of February, it's back to normal. Sometimes these giant resolutions are just too much! If I tried to convince myself that I needed to get up at 5am to go run at the gym (like my husband does) it might, maybe, last two weeks. Those of you who know me, know that I am not a morning person. Oh, and I hate to run. Even committing to an hour-long daily (or even weekly!) yoga practice might be too big a leap for some. But if we consider a commitment to self-care in small chunks, maybe we can finally stick with it. It's small, and can make you feel really good, right? So my resolution is to take 10 minutes at lunchtime to meditate. I had been walking but that depended on weather and a bunch of other excuses, so it didn't work as a commitment to myself. Ten minutes is a small enough commitment and all I'll need is a relatively quiet place. Everyone has 10 minutes at some point during the day no matter how crazy your schedule might be. Self-care is so ridiculously important and you are absolutely worth every second of it. Commit to yourself. Namaste.
